Creating Art in Honor of This Moment: The Aftermath of George Floyd's Senseless Death.

Creating Art in Honor of This Moment: The Aftermath of George Floyd's Senseless Death.

This past weekend, I sat down to create some art. With all that is going on in the world - with the division, divisiveness, and defensiveness after the death of George Floyd - I was feeling a LOT and was at a loss for words.

So, I just started mindlessly creating.

Cutting. Arranging. Adhering. Cutting. Arranging. Adhering...

In the end, this funky piece of art is what showed up.

I quickly knew what to name it:
Same and Different
Each of the 24 "characters" are both same and different on both the inside and the outside. Yet the characters come together to create something beautiful (if I do say so myself).

Can this happen for our country?

With all of the muck coating our country and world right now, can we create something beautiful? Oh, I do so want to be hopeful!

Same and Different led to creating two more pieces of artwork - all related to this moment in time.

The second piece I created was with the thought of what individuals can do to make a difference.
It is entitled
Be the Change.

Be the Change.

Change is hard.
It takes lumps and bumps.
And, at times it really, really stings.

Change is possible.
With an open heart.
And an open mind.

Change can transform.
One person at a time.

You can be the change.

The last piece of this series, is all about how we, as a collective group, can make change in our country.

Making Change.

Together.
Using voices.
Exclaiming.
Questioning.

Making change.

For me creating has always been therapeutic. Now, I am realizing that it is also a way for me to use my voice.

Thanks!
